Beyond the Pitch

When the phone rings in the midst of a busy day, I often sense somehow that the person on the other end of the phone is desperately seeking something that they can’t find in any “pitch” I might make. Hidden in the unsaid is the real question that is on the caller’s mind: “Can I be successful in this business with you?” In general, ad-response callers seem to be looking for integrity and total honesty and they have an expectation for mentorship that will extend way beyond just helping them join an MLM company.

One might even say, such callers are seeking something “beyond the pitch” that will provide what has been, for them, the missing link. This is an opportunity for you to discover if you are coming up short in your search for the “right” opportunity.

You see, up until now, you may have thought that you needed “the right product,” the “right pay plan,” the “right materials,” the “right sponsor” or the “right system.”

You certainly do need those, but most of all, you need the right attitude and the ability to become, and remain, ten feet tall and bulletproof. You will find that if you create a huge MLM business from scratch in today’s marketplace, it will more than likely be because of who you become, rather than what you say and do. It’s not so much about “doing” as it is about “being.”

However, here’s where the formula for success becomes confusing. In order to “be” a certain way, you will need to “do” some things according to a work plan, while you evolve your inner self in the process.

Here’s what I mean: a good program for you might be to read 30 minutes of personal development work as your day starts, and follow by spending the morning “doing,” such things as cold-calling leads to screen for your business presentation. A coaching call afterwards with an upline mentor will be invaluable in helping you “re-group” and become more effective in your phoning skills.

One thing’s for sure . . . the effectiveness of the “doing” is greatly affected by the power of the “being.” You will attract people by your presence if you have a strong awareness of purpose and if you are self-confident. You will then evolve into the mindset of helping others achieve their dreams, rather than centering on what you want.

Of course, I understand that you have legitimate wants and needs, but the problem with many unsuccessful people in the MLM industry is that they spend most, if not all of their time, worrying about their own income, dreams and objectives.

I can guarantee that you will win every trip contest your company has from now on, if you follow my proven formula: Find 6 distributors in your organization who want to win the trip and throw yourself into a frenzied commitment to do whatever it takes to help them get there. You are virtually assured of qualifying your own position in the process . . . and of driving your income up very dramatically without an ounce of self-centeredness.

As a matter of fact, even though my husband, Taylor Hegan, and I have earned a little over 8 million dollars with our First Fitness business during the almost 16 years we’ve been distributors, we still do the elements of the business everyday: retailing, sponsoring, training, mentoring and encouraging, while evaluating the effectiveness of what we’re doing.

I want you to realize if you, or others in your organization, aren’t succeeding in this business, perhaps the reason you aren’t succeeding has nothing to do with “what” you have been emphasizing. Perhaps, with “what” you have been emphasizing, you’ll stay unsuccessful until you fully comprehend and implement the message I’ve written for you here.

I am fully committed to make a difference in the industry, not just to achieve financial freedom and a lifestyle that I love. I’ve already done both of those!

I hope that you can use the wisdom of these words and let them guide you to becoming an industry superstar. You can go “beyond the pitch” to representing true purpose and opportunity for all. That is what most of the opportunity seekers who call you are really looking for . . . whether they know how to vocalize it or not.

8 Top Myths of the Masters:
How to Separate Today’s Wisdom from Yesterday’s Success Stories

Dr. Eileen Silva © 2006

Here I go again . . . running the risk of stepping on some of the industry’s well-known success stories, but honesty compels me to set the record straight as book after book, tape set after tape set, and article after article drift by --- most offering shades of the same topic: “How to be successful in MLM.”

As a service to those of you who hope to glean some useful advice on how to REALLY make money in MLM today, I am going to “tell it to you like it is” one more time with an exposure of the top 8 myths floating around our industry.

MYTH # 1:
Your sponsor will be able to teach you everything.

FACT:
In reality, many of the sponsors in MLM can’t do the business building system effectively themselves, let alone teach it. Being good at something and being good at teaching something are two different things! If we’re going to be completely honest, can a sponsor effectively teach something that they cannot do themselves, and do you want to learn the business from that sponsor?

MYTH #2:
You must get good at “at home” meetings by having your sponsor conducting some for you.

FACT:
The days of “the home parties” being the primary way to work the business are basically gone. Forgive me all you Mary Kay’ers and BeautiControl distributors who must have live demos, but mainstream, professional, typical MLM now applies more user-friendly technology and flexible techniques rather than the cumbersome, labor intensive, one on-one, in-person approach.

In my business, I have people from ages 19 to 84 plugging right in to phone system technology from the comfort of their swimming pools, cars, and living rooms. We teach people to sift through dozens of leads and then simply plug the interested ones in for an orientation to the business.

MYTH #3:
Your sponsor is the source of your distribution approaches.

FACT:
Many sponsors are clueless. Get your reliable information from certified trainers and/or company operated systems, unless your sponsor is fabulous and is already making over $10,000 a month consistently.

MYTH #4:
You need to go wide fast.

FACT:
Depth builds stability. What you really need to do is analyze your compensation plan. If you go wide immediately in some plan without any depth, your sponsor might capture much of your money.

MYTH #5:
Always sponsor under the first person who asks you.

FACT:
Your sponsor is your lifeline to success. This is America, land of the free, and you have a right to choose the best person with whom you have good rapport and can mentor with, not the first, but possibly unethical or incompatible, person who might pounce on you for sponsorship. I believe that choosing a sponsor is like choosing a marriage partner. It has everything to do with how rapidly you can learn the ropes.

When you sponsor under a six-figure earner instead of an MLM junkie, doesn’t it make sense that your chances for success are enhanced? When the junkie moves on in a month or two, he or she will probably raid your downline for the next deal. THAT’S almost a guarantee!

MYTH # 6:
You should sponsor locally, and then break out when you’re making more money.

FACT:
Using cheap long distance, email, websites, fax-on-demands, etc. makes distance MLM work as easily and cost effectively as local work in many cases. One of my new top money earners has always lived in a tiny town. She’d be nowhere if she had fallen for myth #6.

MYTH #7:
Work harder to be more successful.

FACT:
Work smarter to be more successful. I’ve made a lot more money in the last few years than I did before when I routinely stayed up every night until 2:00 am or later “working the business.” I now leverage other people’s time and energy to create massive action instead of having it all revolve around me. This myth was one of my greatest pitfalls.

MYTH #8:
There is only one proven system to MLM success.

FACT:
There are many ways to become wealthy today in MLM. I have a 21-year-old in my organization who has learned how to consistently make over $20,000 a month without doing a single home meeting, but rather by becoming a telephone expert. He does his entire business over the phone. So, by ALL means, be open to new possibilities!

The reason why I felt such a sense of urgency to uncover and expose these myths is . . . I am tired of all the failures out there, and I am extremely aware that the “icons” in the industry have sometimes been afforded more credibility than any recent field distributor success could justify.

I would go so far as to say this: If your “icon” has not experienced significant field growth that he or she engineered in the past 3 years or less, then you would do best by taking his or her advice with a huge grain of salt. Anyone who says that the internet, phone technology, etc. really hasn’t changed our business much is just plain out of touch.

I would like you to make money --- BIG money in MLM. You can best do that by dispelling and exposing the myths, while learning the truth and staying current on what is working in today’s rapidly changing marketplace

"Four Easy Steps to the Career of Your Dreams"

Dr. Eileen Silva © 2006
email:ensilva@aol.com
web: http://www.easilymakingmoney.com

Have you ever wondered how to step into the career of your dreams? What if you could --- without considering the education, talent, or attributes that might be needed --- design a future for yourself and your loved ones that included everything you ever wanted to accomplish in a career?

The good news is . . . it’s possible! Here are four easy steps that will lead you to success:

Step #1. Visualize yourself successful in your dream career one year from now. Mentally explore your daily dream job performance. Now, bring yourself backward in time to the present day, jotting down each month’s activities. Check the list to see what you need to be doing today towards your dream career.

I’m going to take a middle-of-the-road approach and say that in a year, you’ll want to be earning $10,000 a month and be full time in your business. You’ll have over 500 distributors and the full support of your healthy, vibrant, and successful family. If needed, your children will stamp brochures, prepare orders, and make deliveries. Your spouse will be enjoying with you the financial and emotional rewards of your career. You will charismatically attract those you want, rather than trying to persuade all the passers-by to join you.

Now, organize the work schedule that arises from this mental exercise and start executing it on a daily basis, without fail!

Step #2. Choose your mentor, and then volunteer your services with someone who is already successful at what you want to do. Tirelessly master all that you can, avoiding the tendency to improve on anything until you have produced and mastered it exactly as first presented (this one is tough for most of us). This step is a real time saver, and your whole success could hinge on it. Let’s face it: most of us are constantly reinventing the wheel in MLM --- prematurely working on “our own” trainings, brochures, flyers, etc.

Amazingly enough, in 1987, my husband, Taylor Hegan, and I developed a huge organization, which earned over $21,000 in our first month, and launched a new company --- with a single typewritten brochure, which had almost no information in it.

It is more important that you “be” a certain way, than it is that you “do” a certain thing, in order for your MLM career to blossom. Since your mentor keeps you on track in distinguishing the difference between “being” and “doing,” you’ll need to be sure this person’s ethics are firmly in place if you want high integrity, as well as high-income, in your dream career. Your mentor needs to embody the elements of service that you’re looking for besides being a dollar cruncher who can drive income.

Step #3. Divide the masteries you need into small steps that you can handle. It comes back to the old --- “How do you eat an elephant? . . . One bite at a time” metaphor.
If, for example, you are terrified of learning how to do an effective phone presentation, you should begin your mastery by simply setting a phone appointment for your prospect to meet your sponsor on the phone. Then, listen while your sponsor makes the pitch.

Most distributors fail to utilize the power of third party credibility, which is that it’s more exciting than simply speaking with one person. Maybe the lesson here is to learn to work smarter, not harder.

Step #4. Get your family to create a dream list and make the fulfillment of that list a priority as you become successful in your home-based career. If, for example, your wife would like to quit her job and manage the home and family full-time, then earmark a significant portion of your growing income for her job-salary replacement. She will be more supportive of your evenings out and Saturday trainings if her dream fulfillment is your dream motivator. Your children will be more supportive if they are looking forward to the skating or tennis lessons that your additional income will provide.

Every member of the family can participate and contribute to a home-based business, which is the last bastion of tax relief left in America today. We can all relate to the dream of the family that works together and plays together, then stays together.

It’s time for you to step out and go for it! You can, and should, control your own destiny with the implementation of these four easy steps, and if you don’t, someone else will. It really comes down to this: either you will fulfill your own career dreams or you will work your whole life to fulfill someone else’s. Which would you prefer?
